Looking back over some of the framed origami shadow boxes I’ve made over the years.

I absolutely love using my hands to make something beautiful come to life out of very little. Our hands are so powerful and there is magic to be made out of nothing 💥

But oh! I’ve realised I’ve never actually made one for myself! They have all been gifted to others. I’ve loved doing this of course but I reckon it’s time to make one for myself. One of my first creative endeavours now that I am on long service leave from work which I am taking to focus on MYSELF. It will definitely be a tree of life and an opportunity for me to start to connect to my ancestral roots. A way to root down deep as I navigate this uncharted territory.

And if you are interested in making one of these precious pieces for yourself or a special other, you can join me this Sunday 28th for my tree of life workshop. There is space for you 🌲 🌬️ ✨

The magic that happens when you make a commitment to prioritise more REST and JOY in your life ✨

In just two weeks, I’ve gone from being the owner of a harp gathering dust in the corner of my room to being able to play my first ever song 🎶 🪉

May this sweet lullaby played on my little harp called Maggie help you get to sleep a bit better tonight and may you be inspired to find greater rest and joy in YOUR life 💓 💤

There have been so many signs and signals lately in my life to lay it all down, to rest, to let go and surrender to the unknown.

Vivid dreams, reoccurring bouts of illness, anxiety in public spaces, not finding joy in my usual joyful practices, struggling to be present with my family, as well as this fallen down tree.

I always get really sad when I see trees fallen like this. But spending time with this beautiful tree and reflecting in the days since has helped me to realise that my feelings are projections stemming from a core belief that rest is lazy, unproductive, unhelpful, and even selfish.

Yet, as nature always does, this tree revealed its beautiful medicine to me: rest is nourishing, rest gives way to play and joy, rest allows one to take risks and to find the courage, strength and stamina to venture into the unknown.

And rest IS absolutely a way of giving to others. Even though this magnificent tree was no longer upright, it was still providing a refuge to many small creatures in the forest; its rotting matter is no doubt providing valuable nutrients back into to the land and soil AND it provided an wonderful opportunity for my beautiful children and I to play and just be together.

Seriously ❗️ I continue to be blown away by the wisdom of trees 🌲 🌲 One of my most powerful teachers yet and I will continue to spend time with them for guidance and support.

If my story resonates with you, if you know you need to rest, if you want to connect with the medicine of trees, I warmly invite you to my upcoming Tree of Life workshop on Sunday 28 June 11am in South Brisbane where we will make a tree together in a framed shadow box ✨

Life has a way of continually bringing me to my knees.

And it is in these moments I am pulled to find solace from the trees.

Come now she whispers . Rest your weary soul on my sturdy trunk.

Then she holds me, she grounds me, and I soften in the breeze.

I am delighted to offer this next women’s gathering as someone who has always loved trees - being with them, climbing them, hiding under them for shade, and yes hugging them 🤭

I have been making tree of life shadow boxes since .. well I can’t remember. Maybe I was first inspired by my love for Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood and the Magic Faraway Tree book series as a child. But definitely by the many children I have worked with over the years and more recently by my own children - one a fearless tree climber who has given me shakey leg syndrome as a mother, and the other who has cried at seeing the beautitul trees cut down in our neighbourhood due to development 🌳 💗 🌳

Dedicating time to creating a tree is a wonderful way to tap into your true nature, find grounding and wholeness. And doing it in circle with other women coupled with a nourishing yoga practice provides opportunity for deeper connection and creative expression.

I am so looking forward to this gathering. If it calls to you or if you know another woman who may be interested, DM me for more details and to secure your spot.

Love,
Ashley

As part of my current Sadhana, I have made a commitment to radically embrace and embody the following:

✨ I commit to taking responsibility for myself.

✨ I will celebrate your unique beauty and gifts.

✨ I will not hold myself back to fit in and I will support you to do the same.

These were the commitments that most called to me from the wisdom school. The ones that when I read them aloud stirred up inside of me intense feelings of joy, excitement, longing as well as dread and fear. They are the ones that feel like a calling from my soul, the ones that feel like signposts for the way forward and the way home 💓

Something has been stirred up for sure 🪄 And I enter the day with greater reverence and devotion to the power of words and the sisterhood.

A reminder today that your no is sacred, powerful and protective.

Reclaim it in every direction that you turn in life. Listen for the no that comes from the intelligence of the body (not the mind). Then watch your life change for the better.

And if you are an excessive people pleaser like I used to be, maybe buy a shirt that says no as a visual reminder 🤭

Happy Mothers Day to all of the amazing women providing mothering and caretaking in family and community 💓

May you have the space and support to explore who you are beyond your mothering and caretaking roles.

May you be surrounded by women who uplift and inspire you to be who you truly are.

May you strive for progress and a deeper connection with yourself over perfection and external validation.

May you feel so safe in your body and in the world around you that you remember how to dance, play and smile again.

Much love,
Ashley
