At the Paris 2024 Olympics, when Saya crossed the finish line to claim the Gold Medal in BMX Racing, she wasn't just riding for herself. She was riding for her brother, Kai Sakakibara. 🇦🇺✨
🏁 The Heart-Wrenching Backstory
Kai was a rising star in the BMX world, destined for greatness. But in 2020, a horrific crash during a World Cup race changed everything. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that left him paralyzed and ended his racing career forever. 💔

Instead of giving up, Saya took Kai’s dream on her shoulders. She began racing with number 77—the very number Kai wore on his jersey. Every pedal, every jump, and every victory since then has been a tribute to the brother who taught her how to fly. 🦅
🥇 A Golden Redemption
After the heartbreak of crashing out in Tokyo, Saya didn't stop. In Paris, she finally reached the pinnacle of the podium. As the national anthem played, the world saw a gold medal, but Saya saw a completed journey for her brother. 🥹🏆

🚴 A World Cup champion! 🏆
🇦🇺 Aussie rider Saya Sakakibara has won her maiden UCI BMX Racing World Cup title at the final race in Argentina.
🥇 The 24-year-old Gold Coast cyclist also won the final three rounds of the season to finish on five wins and 3775 points overall, 731 ahead of second place.
It's an incredible comeback for Sakakibara who almost quit the sport last year following concussion injuries, dedicating the win to her brother, Kai, who has suffered his own injuries. 💚💛
