What if your parent membership could be waived next season??…

We’re looking for people to step into our core volunteer roles: SRC, Bronze and Age Manager.

If you take on one of these positions this season and volunteer your time for Nippers, (this does not mean you're permanently locked in every single session), your parent membership fee will be waived next year when you sign up AND volunteer again.

A little time = a big thank‑you.

All you need is to be a paying member this season - we’ll show you the rest!

We’re locking in dates for Bronze and First Aid now. We have a very experienced Age Manager looking to come up 5/6 September to do workshops and demos with us (highly recommend ALL parents come check this out!!)

SURF LIFE SAVING PATHWAYS 🌊⚡

Getting qualified is easier than most people think, and every trained parent helps us ensure safer, better, and consistent Nippers sessions. Check out some of the options below.

BRONZE MEDALLION
⚡This is a core water‑safety qualification for SLS.
⚡We need Bronze holders on the beach to run any water‑based Nippers activities.
⚡This covers board/tube rescues, surf signals, CPR, and risk assessment.
⚡Pathway: Online theory → practical training → assessment.
*We can run a weekend course in Bowen - need a minimum of 5 people
⚡FREE for members

SURF RESCUE CERTIFICATE (SRC)
⚡This is a water‑safety qualification for SLS, for 13yrs and over.
⚡Able to be water safety crew for our Nippers activities.
⚡This covers First Aid., CPR, surf awareness, rescue methods and comms.
⚡Pathway: Online theory → practical training → assessment.
*We can run a weekend course in Bowen - need a minimum of 5 people
⚡FREE for members

FIRST AID
⚡You will get a nationally recognised first aid certificate.
⚡Every Nippers session requires qualified first aiders on site.
⚡This covers CPR, emergency response and injury management.
⚡Pathway: Online modules → practical workshop → assessment.
*We can run a weekend course in Bowen - need a minimum of 5 people
⚡FREE for members

AGE MANAGER
⚡This is a leadership role, guiding each Nippers age group.
⚡The more Age Managers the more consistent and safer our sessions will be
⚡This covers activity supervision, communication, youth development.
⚡Pathway: Online course → short induction → shadowing → sign‑off.
⚡FREE for members
***We have the opportunity to run a hands-on workshop here in Bowen 5/6th September - 10am-3pm.

JUNIOR WATER SAFETY (U18)
⚡For teens who want to help on the beach. U18 Water Safety volunteers support Nippers water activities under supervision and build skills toward their future Bronze Medallion.
⚡Pathway: Junior Water Safety training → practical session → supervised sign‑off.

BLUE CARD (Qld Working With Children Check)
⚡This is mandatory for anyone helping with kids and is required for all volunteers on the beach. Yes, you heard right - ALL.
⚡Pathway: Free online application → ID check → link to Whitsunday SLSC.
⚡You can jump online NOW and get this for FREE

WHY IT MATTERS
Every qualification strengthens our club. More trained parents means more water time, fewer cancellations, and a safer, more confident Nippers program.

RE: 23/08/26 Nippers

Unfortunately, our awesome crew is spread far and wide this Sunday, and we don’t have the numbers to deliver a safe Nippers session this weekend, 23/08/26.

The good news is why everyone’s away:
🌊Sam and Bernie have been invited to level up with extra SLS training focused on youth programming
🌊Mark is coaching the Bowen Women’s Rugby team in the finals (we’ll be cheering them on!),
🌊Kayla and Tennille have family and work commitments.
..And as much as Trent would love to get all our Nippers on the sand, we’ll need to wait until next weekend.

This weekend is a one‑off, but it’s also a great reminder of how important it is to have more parents trained and ready to jump in when needed. We’ll be posting info tonight on how you can get involved and how easy it is to get qualified; please keep your eye peeled take a moment to read through.

Another ripper of a day at Nippers yesterday!

The older kids smashed it today learning the basics of how to assess danger, check a person’s responsiveness, clear airways and call for help. While the younger kids worked on their dolphin dives, wading and flag technique.

Our team is dedicated in teaching life skills, confidence, and a whole lot of fun in the sun 🌞.

We are very proud of our Nippers and the way they show up each week 💪.

It is a requirement that an adult must be a member when registering a child.

Heads up, Nippers families. Adults need to be members too when registering a child. It keeps everything compliant and covered for safety and insurance purposes.

This week we’re in full Santa mode… making a list, checking it twice and reaching out to families who might’ve missed the adult membership at sign‑up. If you need to update yours, you can do so now otherwise please reach out to the team with any questions.

Nippers is back on this Sunday, 9–11am at Rose Bay Beach.

We can’t wait to see our U6–U14 groups for another morning of water skills, teamwork and confidence building.

Bring water, sunscreen, hat… and a stinger suit if you have one.
If you don’t, we’ll lend you one at sign‑in.

If there are any bigger kids wanting to have a crack - come on down - we have plenty for you to try out! We also have plenty of volunteer roles and pathways for you to explore. Chat to one of our team to find out more.

And just a friendly reminder to be mindful to park in the designated areas.
