🦈 THE STORY BEHIND THE TIKO SHARKS 🦈

This artwork represents more than just a logo or colours — it tells a story of culture, connection, and strength.

The design was done by our beautiful Aunt Larisa Ahoy & is inspired by traditional Aboriginal art, where symbols, dots, and flowing pathways represent journeys, land, water, unity, and community. The waves and circular patterns symbolise connection to Country, the oceans, and the shared paths we walk together as a team.

At the heart of this artwork is the shark — a symbol of protection, resilience, leadership, and survival. In many Aboriginal stories, the shark represents strength, guardianship, and respect for the sea.

This meaning aligns deeply with the founder of Tiko Sharks, Navi Tiko, whose traditional Fijian totem (tortume) is also the shark. In Fijian culture, the shark is known as a protector of people and villages, a guardian spirit that watches over its own and leads with courage and purpose.

Based in the New England region, Tiko Sharks is committed to creating pathways for young Aboriginal and Pasifika athletes. We provide opportunities for our youth to train and compete alongside high-level players, gaining exposure to elite rugby environments in both Rugby League and Rugby Union.

Our mission is to develop confidence, discipline, and belief, while giving our young players the chance to be seen, tested, and prepared for the next level — on and off the field.

The Tiko Sharks team stands at the intersection of Aboriginal and Pacific Islander culture — united by respect, heritage, and the belief that strength comes from knowing where you come from and standing together.
