The Australian Belly Dance Convention - bringing together belly dance communities across AU and NZ.

For those looking to book their accommodation now for the 2027 Convention, here's the first of your anchor points.

We are proud to be using the amazing Restless Dance Theatre studios at 195 Gilles St, Adelaide South (SA) for our daytime sessions during the 2027 event.

If you haven't heard of the Restless Dance Theatre, you most definitely should dive into finding out more. They are the leading inclusive dance company that actively works to provide opportunities for neurodiverse and disabled artists. If you are a local, please check out their shows, as their work is leading on what creative arts should look like as a practise that should be available to all people.

If you were reading correctly earlier, we did say for the _daytime_ sessions. We're working on finding the perfect spot for our evening sessions and will share them with you soon. Yes, we know that means everything won't be under one roof like previous years, but sometimes you need to break the standards - even if you've created them!

And now for the moment you've been waiting for....

The 2027 Convention will be in...

⛪ ADELAIDE, SA 🍷

More details, including an introduction to the local hosts, will be coming over the next few weeks. In the meantime... the countdown commences!

The website will be updated shortly (that team is a bit slower than us here in socials land). But we can say that you'll want to join the mailing list on the website to get the first info on when the applications for facilitating a session and performing will come out.

Before we get onto the exciting news of where you can find us for the 2027 Convention, we'd like to take a moment to pay our respects to the amazing Mel Robson who passed away recently.

Mel was an amazing dancer, teacher, student and friend to many in our Australian community and had bejeweled more than one dancer through her amazing creations - some of which she sold at our 2024 Convention in Berry, NSW.

We wish to express our gratitude and our sorrow at her passing and offer our love to all her family, friends and community who are grieving her passing.

I had heard of but not seen Deanna Meraki until the Australian Belly Dance Convention. A beautiful dancer in the true Egyptian style, full of emotion, joy and just effortless...I could have watched her for hours. Festivals are important because you get to see all the dancers live you've only seen on facebook or instagram. Seeing a dancer live is a whole other dimension...so I recommend everyone support these festivals...it’s good for you and makes you happy!

I can't remember what the act was called but I've re-named it the Bootylicious Babes. This was fun, joyful, entertaining and a line up of the most fabulous women...what's not to love. 🥰

THANK YOU PERTH!
Thank you to (takes a deep breath in):
- all our facilitators and performers
- the volunteers who helped out in sessions/at the door
- the Mt Lawley Senior High School students who did the FoH for the shows
- DJ Phat Gaffah, the DJ with the most s***k 4eva!
- Wayne Eddy (who's work you'll see coming out soon)
- DnA Videography and Musa (who's work you'll also see soon)
- everyone who had a stall at the Markets, and all the people who bought from them
- Everyone who attended any session, danceparty, show or came to the markets
- Our venue who gave us that lovely space to present everyone in
- The worst storm Perth has seen in 5 years who decided to leave us alone and only make lots of noise around the hall and not pull the place apart/turn off the lights (joking/not joking)
- Our 2026 Hosts - the WAMED Festival team - who worked with us to produce an event that was uniquely Convention in Perth.

And finally - I'm sure you'll all agree thanks should go to the Core Convention Committee (no apologies for the alliteration). Without their dedication (and a complete lack of regard for "bad storms"), the whole weekend would not have happened.

We know you're all waiting to find out where the 2027 event will be.
Honestly, so is the socials team - they run a tight shift!
While we wait for the clues to start flowing (we hear it's all waiting on a signature), we'll be sharing some more videos and photos from the weekend for you all to enjoy.
