Sunday we did something a little different…

We headed out to Angas Go-Kart Club and Drew decided to have a run in KTs.

It’s only been 16 years since he last raced, so I’m pretty sure it felt like the first time all over again!

He made it through all 3 heats and the final, with each run getting a little better as he made small changes in between and slowly got happier with how the kart was running.

Not a bad effort for the first time back behind the wheel in 16 years!

Pretty sure this won’t be a one-off…

Also a massive thank you to Ty Forrestal for all the help and advice and getting the kart running right & also to Adam Wood for pushing.

Sunday we headed out to Angas Go-Kart Club for their practice day. The weather turned out to be on our side, despite showers being forecast, we only experienced a very light drizzle for a few minutes.

Ella had three runs across the day. While she wasn’t quite at her usual pace and lost some speed through the corners, she showed improvement in other areas. She held her line well and did an awesome job managing her nerves when being passed, something she had struggled with at her previous event.

She’s come away with a clear idea of the areas she wants to focus on next time she’s out on track, but most importantly, she had a great day and had fun, which is what it’s all about!

We'd also like to thank everyone who comes up and gives Ella advice and words of encouragement when we're out at the track, its truely amazing and very much appreciated.

Today we’re heading to Angas Go-Kart Club for their practice day. Ella’s keen to get on the track again and put in more laps after taking a weekend off last weekend.

Last weekend we headed out to Adelaide Dirt Kart Club for the Lucky 7’s 2 Day Event, and despite some pretty rough weather leading into it, we were lucky enough to get a break from the rain and enjoy a solid weekend of racing.

Ella went into the weekend with a few personal goals, the biggest one being to overcome her nerves during the form up.

Day 1

Heat 1:
Nerves were at an all-time high and unfortunately got the better of her during the form up, meaning she didn’t make the start.

Heat 2:
A big step forward, Ella pushed through the nerves, completed the form up and got her very first race start. Unfortunately, coming into turn one she tried her best to avoid a stopped kart but couldn’t quite get around it in time, ending her heat early.

Heat 3:
Another improvement, she handled the form up well and secured her second start for the day. She was out there turning laps, which was a huge goal for the weekend. As faster karts began coming through, the nerves crept back in and she made the call to pull in. A tough moment, but an important learning experience on how to manage those situations moving forward.

Heat 4:
Heading into the final heat of the day, Ella was feeling much more confident. She had overcome her earlier challenges and lined up with a plan. After a couple of laps, her session came to an abrupt end. Carrying more confidence into the hairpin than expected, the kart gripped up harder than she was prepared for, and she was unable to correct it, resulting in a heavy impact into the tyre stacks at the fence. A huge thank you to the medical team who were quick to respond and took great care of her. Unfortunately, due to being quite sore the following morning, this brought her racing weekend to an early end.

Day 2
Ella didn’t take part in Sunday’s racing, but we still spent the day at the track enjoying some great racing and soaking it all in.
All in all, while it wasn’t the smoothest weekend results-wise, there were some really big personal wins. From overcoming form up nerves to getting those first race starts and laps under her belt, we’re proud of the progress she’s making every time she hits the track.

Practice Day Recap – Angas Go-Kart Club
Yesterday Ella headed out to Angas Go Kart Club for a practice day, making the most of some valuable track time and continuing to build confidence in the kart.

Run 1:
Ella headed out for her first session feeling a few nerves, but quickly settled in once she hit the track and began to feel comfortable behind the wheel. She showed great consistency throughout the run, gaining more confidence with every lap completed. A couple of big achievements came from this session, Ella completed all of her laps and successfully made some clean passes, something she hasn’t had the opportunity to do before as she’s usually been the one being passed. It was a really positive start to the day and a great confidence boost heading into the next runs.

Run 2:
The second session didn’t quite meet Ella’s expectations, and frustration started to creep in as she wasn’t happy with her speed heading into the turns. She came back in feeling a little defeated, but it also gave her a clear understanding of what she needed to work on moving forward. Even the tougher sessions are valuable learning moments, and this one helped highlight the areas she wants to focus on improving.

Run 3:
Run three started off strong, with Ella heading back out feeling confident and comfortable overall. Unfortunately, she came into one of the turns a little too hot and ended up getting a bit up close and personal with the wall, bringing the session to an early end. The big positive to take away was her quick reaction once she realised the mistake couldn’t be corrected, managing the situation well and avoiding any damage to the kart.

With that being our final run for the day, we packed up after spending a warm day out in the sun. Even with a few ups and downs, it was a valuable day of learning and experience for Ella, and she’s already looking forward to getting back out there and continuing to improve.
