I wish I had been taught that the nervous system has two basic modes. One that activates for focus, action, response to demand and one that restores, for recovery, digestion, sleep, repair.
We spend the vast majority of our working lives in the first one, and we wonder why we feel depleted even when we’re technically doing everything right.
Your body isn’t being difficult. It’s being honest when it is slowing you down, giving you signals that you shouldn’t be constantly operating in that state.
Living and working in high pressured environments mean the activation dial gets turned up daily. The pace, the noise, the decisions, the expectations. The WhatsApp messages before 8am…… or is that before 7am ☹
Most people don’t realise they’ve spent years in a state their body was only designed to sustain briefly. A state historically that was for fighting an enemy or protecting yourself from a very valid threat.
It’s so important to learn to move between the two states more fluidly, to actually complete the stress cycle rather than just push through it and to stop and rest. That’s where so much changes for you.
Not just in how you feel at the end of the day, but in how clearly you think. How steadily you lead. How much of yourself you have left for the things that actually matter.
Regulation doesn’t look like being calm all the time, just as it doesn’t look like fight or aggression.
It should look like having enough range in your system to handle what life asks of you, without it costing you everything.
That’s a skill. It’s teachable and for high-performing women in demanding environments, it may be the most valuable thing you invest in this year.

Do you hold yourself to a standard that was set years ago?
The version of you that ran on five hours sleep and still delivered. That absorbed pressure without it touching the sides. That never needed to ask for support.
How do you feel when you can’t meet that standard anymore, what’s the first thing you question?
I bet it’s not the standard but it’s yourself!
I want to offer you a different perspective. That earlier version of you wasn’t stronger but she was running on adrenaline, cortisol and sheer determination. She probably had no idea what it was costing her and even if she did, the sheer fact that she felt she had so much to prove pushed her harder.
The woman you are now, the one who feels things more, who needs more recovery, who finds it harder to pretend everything is fine, is different, not weaker. She’s more honest, especially to herself.
That honesty, when you understand what’s underneath it, becomes your greatest professional asset. When you can stop measuring yourself against who you were and start understanding what your body is telling you now, something shifts. In how you lead. In how you decide. In how much of yourself you actually have access to.
The superpower isn’t who you were then. It’s knowing now what you couldn’t see then.
If this is resonating, I’d love to hear from you.
Sometimes just naming it is where everything starts to change.

There’s a version of you that nobody at work sees.
The one who got through the week but isn’t quite sure how. The one who sat in a meeting, sharp and composed, while something underneath felt quietly off.
The one who came home and had nothing left.
If you’re a high-performing woman in a demanding environment and you’ve been feeling lately like you’re working harder just to feel the same, I want you to know something.
You’re not imagining it and you’re not going backwards and you are definitely not alone in feeling this!
For many women, there comes a point where the strategies that carried you this far start to feel like they’re working against you. Not because you’ve lost anything but because your body is asking for something different now.
That’s information you can use to your advantage. Try not to look at it as a problem.
When you learn how to work with it rather than push through it, something shifts. Not just in how you feel but in how you lead, how you decide, how you show up for the things that matter most and most importantly how you feel at the end of that long day.
You’re not at the end of something.
You’re at the beginning of understanding yourself at a level most people never reach.

Something has shifted in Dubai. The energy feels lighter, yet beneath that there is a different kind of question emerging.

What does the next chapter look like?
What comes after this?
Is what I am building actually sustainable?

These are not crisis questions. They are transition questions. In my experience, those can be more complex than urgency. When everything is on fire, you respond. When there is space, your nervous system has to do something far harder. It has to sit with uncertainty.

For many high-performing individuals, that stillness can feel uncomfortable, even threatening. Pressure becomes familiar. Decisiveness brings recognition, yet it does not always bring clarity.

What feels important right now is that Dubai is in a moment of real opportunity. The city is evolving and there is a growing awareness around what sustainable success truly looks and feels like.

The people navigating this well are not necessarily working harder. They are working with greater awareness. They understand their own system well enough to stay steady and clear while everything around them continues to move.

That capacity is not a personality trait. It is a practice.

The women building most powerfully right now are not waiting for pressure to return. They are using this space to become intentional about how they move forward, not just in their work but in themselves.

That is where real sustainability begins. A calm nervous system supports success. 🧡

For years, I thought I needed more discipline, clarity, confidence.
From the outside, everything looked “together.”
But underneath? I was managing a constant level of stress I didn’t fully understand.
Pushing through exhaustion.
Overthinking simple decisions.
Swinging between high performance and complete depletion.
So I did what most of us do… I looked externally.
Coaching, personal development, wellness tools.
They helped, but something still wasn’t shifting.
What I didn’t realise then, I see clearly now:
I wasn’t lacking mindset or ability.
My nervous system was dysregulated.
When your body is wired for stress, it doesn’t matter how capable you are.
You’ll still feel on edge.
You’ll still doubt yourself.
You’ll still struggle to switch off.
Because your body isn’t operating from safety.
And for many of us, this didn’t start in our careers…
It started much earlier.
I wasn’t trying to fix the wrong things.
I was just working at the wrong level.
Not mindset… but what sits underneath it.
If this resonates, I’d love to hear your experience 🧡

With schools expected to return next week, it feels like things might begin to settle again.
A bit more structure. A bit more routine. A sense of normality returning.
That might feel like a relief for some, but there could be something worth holding onto from the past couple of weeks. Some of those things or routines that have supported you through!
Things may have felt different. Slower in some ways, more stretched in others. You might have noticed your energy shifting, your capacity changing, or what you needed day to day becoming a bit clearer.
It is easy to move straight back into old patterns without really noticing that but there is also an opportunity here to take some of that awareness forward.
Maybe it is a slower start to your day.
Maybe it is taking a proper pause between things.
Maybe it is recognising when you need to adjust, rather than pushing through.
Not perfectly. Just more consciously.
Especially at times where your nervous system might already be holding more, or where things feel a little different in your body, those small shifts matter.
So as things begin to reset, I have been asking myself:
What has actually helped me recently?
What would I like to keep, rather than leave behind?
I would love to hear what that looks like for you 🧡

I’ve been thinking more about that background hum so many of us have been feeling.
It’s easy to brush it off as just a busy period or a lot going on but it’s often more than that.
When your system has been holding a low level of stress for a while, it starts to show up in subtle ways.
You might notice you’re a bit more reactive than usual, or conversations feel slightly harder. Focus can dip, even when you’re trying. Decision-making can feel heavier.
Nothing dramatic. Just a bit… off.
It’s not because you’re not coping, more likely your nervous system has been working in the background for longer than it’s used to.
Supporting your nervous system isn’t separate from how you work or how you lead. It directly shapes how you communicate, how you handle pressure, and how you show up day to day.
Not through big changes, but through small, consistent shifts.
That’s usually where things begin to feel different again. 🧡

When did you lose your voice?
Do you remember that first time you were told to be quiet or you were told you can’t say something?
These messages we hear at an early age create a response.
No two responses will be the same but often in women those that have been told to be quiet or that their opinion or voice doesn’t matter end up suppressing their feelings and reactions for fear of upsetting someone.
Surpressing your thoughts and views can cause issues both physically and mentally.
Physically in issues with the gut, anxiety or even blood pressure whereas mentally the self doubt and worthiness issues can contribute to never feeling good enough or believing in themselves.
Please don’t tell your daughters to be quiet or not use their voice
Please don’t tell your daughters their opinions are not valuable.
Right, wrong or indifferent please provide them with a safe space to voice their truths and learn about themselves and what their views are.
Let’s try and get it right with our children so we are not raising another generation of muted women
